Hosting guests from out of town this spring? You’ll want to make sure your yard and landscaping are looking their best. After all, they are the first impression someone sees when they drive up to the front of your home.

If your visitors are from parts of the country that are still knee-deep in snow, they will probably be thrilled just to be in a warm climate for a change! But we can imagine they will be even more excited to see your green lawn and beautiful landscaping…especially since their own may not be visible for weeks to come.

landscapingHere are some general tips for getting your yard and landscaping ready for spring:

  • Rake away leaves and other debris that may have landed in your yard.
  • Mow your grass to approximately 2-4” and maintain that length all season
  • Till the soil in bare spots
  • Get rid of weeds on a regular basis, either by hand or by using an environmentally and pet-friendly pesticide.
  • Plant your summer grass and water regularly
  • Trim and shape bushes
  • Scrub out the bird bath and fill up bird feeders
  • Plant seasonal flowers in beds or in ornamental pots
  • Add yard decorations.

Some of these spring yard and landscaping preparations take more time and maintenance than others. If you lead a busy lifestyle, you may not have the time to spend working on your yard.  Or, yard work may not be your thing.
