Looking for the Perfect Lawn?Scottsdale Lawn Service

J&D’s Scottsdale lawn service experts are trained in growing great grass. Our custom services mean that we are watching for opportunities to prevent and cure lawn diseases while we are doing regular mowing and trimming. This is important, because the best way to avoid lawn disease is through proper maintenance.

Three Types of Lawn Diseases and Their Causes

Improper lawn maintenance can create a less than perfect lawn. If you are seeing any of the following problems in your yard, you may be having trouble with lawn disease:

  • Brown patch is, simply put, a dead patch of grass. Brown patch is most common in Bermuda grass that has been over-fertilized. During Scottsdale’s summers, only moderate fertilizer is needed.
  • Fungus can look like rings of brown grass, sometimes referred to as fairy rings. This is often the result of overwatering. We like to keep a green lawn, but too much water isn’t just expensive, it’s bad for the grass. Check out this free Phoenix lawn watering guide from the University of Arizona for specifics on running your irrigation system.
  • Rapid blight can occur in cool season turf grass. If you see patches of turf that look water soaked, slightly sunken and darker than healthy grass, it might be rapid blight. Grass with this disease can yellow and die within a few days. It’s caused by too much salt in the soil or irrigation system and can be corrected with a specific fertilizing regimen.
